June 7th 2009 Rec Fun Day

The activities followed one after another, celebrating our facility and our ability to enjoy sport and fun.  A centre piece was a dance display from the Junior School, for which (quite properly) the sun shone.

The traditional sports (football, cricket, tennis) were supported by the less well known. The croquet club and the bowls club had many of all ages trying their hand.  Korfball (a very popular mixed team fast sport from Holland) was demonstrated.  Budding Robin Hoods tried their hand at archery.

Over on the Football Club car park, a professional coach taught youngsters how to properly ride a bike.  And there were  a tuck table, BBQ, and teas, cakes and coffees.  All surrounded by a milling crowd enjoying the unexpected good weather and the event.

At five o’clock all quietly returned to normal, with the Rec looking as magnificent as ever.  Many thanks to Tucker Gardner for sponsorship and to the Friends of the Rec and the sports clubs for making this all happen.  See you next year?
